Exploring the earning power of a niche site

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

So I have been talking a lot about creating niche sites recently, and how to use them to earn money online.  Well I was checking my Adsense stats today and came across something that so beautifully illustrated how choosing the right niche can really help you land on your feet.

The image below is a partial screenshot of my Adsense earnings yesterday (for just two of my sites) . Site 1 gets a lot of hits and clicks, but doesn’t earn that much as it is in a low paying niche, Site 2 is a site that I haven’t promoted much and so only gets 50 hits a day and 3 clicks a day, but earnt $3.50 which is a massive difference to Site 1!

If Site 2 had as much traffic as Site 1 then I would be laughing all the way to the bank, sadly it doesn’t and probably never will.  But the point still holds true, choosing a well paying niche is paramount to your earning success!

Hey Chris, I know just how you feel. I have a few sites that pay really well per click, but get next to no traffic, then I have some sites with huge traffic that pay next to nothing per click.. Just imagine if it were the other way around lol.. The advertisers who know their niche doesn’t draw much traffic are willing to pay a lot more for that much needed click on their ads.

I’ve known this for awhile Chris, but the problem I have with a niche blog is that it wouldn’t be long before I run out of things to say and I would probably lose interest in it even sooner.

I lose interest very quickly too but I never actually use blogs for niche sites.

Google treats blogs differently and I never fancied risking it.
I always make static looking sites for niche sites, make 10-15 articles (or more) and just leave it.

I completely agree. I have some niche websites where one of them has made me an average alltime CPC of $0.04 and another which has made an average CPC of $1.28. As you said, if I had all that traffic on the 1st site on my 2nd site, I would probably be half way to be a millionaire :) .

I keep finding decent niches but finding it hard to get the traffic… grr!
